So far in this web site I have talked to you extensively about indoor air pollution and the various technologies you can use to fight against it. Have you taken action yet? If you have, you are well on your way to winning the battle at home.
Now listen closely!
It’s time to discuss outdoor pollution, but not in the same way that everybody else does. As you read this page think about what we talked about on the page called
“Indoor Air Pollution – The Real Problem”.
Do you remember when I said “Our indoor air pollution, at a minimum, should be as bad as the air outdoors?” You agreed with me then, didn’t you? Keep that in mind as you read my next paragraph.
If you are like the rest of us, you spend more time than ever before in your car. You drive to work, to the supermarket, to the family vacation spot. If you are going somewhere, chances are good that you will be driving. As your car travels along the road you will pass through areas with different levels of pollution, right?
"While it Receives Little Attention, In-Car Air Pollution may Pose one of the Greatest Modern Threats to Human Health”
According to the International Center for Technology Assessment in their report of July 2000:
“The results of 23 separate scientific studies conducted during the 1980s and 1990s reveal that in-car air pollution levels frequently reach concentrations that may threaten human health. The reports show that the air inside of cars typically contains more carbon monoxide, benzene, toluene, fine particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides than ambient air at nearby monitoring stations used to calculate government air-quality statistics. In-car pollution is often even worse than pollution in the air at the side of the road. ……… While it receives little attention, in-car air pollution may pose one of the greatest modern threats to human health.”
Do you think the situation has improved since 1990?
"There is little that motorists can do to protect themselves other than staying away from rush-hour driving and, in particular, avoiding getting stuck behind diesel buses or older-model cars.
Other common tactics, such as opening or closing windows or vents or tuning on the air-conditioner, do not help, according to a new study of motorists driving on Los Angeles County and Sacremento freeways." “THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC” - Study: Air inside car dirtier than outside
There is an answer.
New technology, about the size of a radar detector, which will plug into your cigarette lighter (how appropriate), can significantly improve the air quality in your vehicle.
Of course, you need fresh air in more places than just the car or office. You can use it in a hotel room, boat, RV, semi-tractor ... wherever you have a power outlet. Hang it in the closet to freshen clothing. Place one in the bathroom or near a laundry hamper. Use it in the kitchen after cooking. Whether you hang it from the wire stand or mount an extra base on the wall, fresh, clean-smelling air is available anywhere you need it.
